A Few Strategy Ideas:

One on One Mentoring is very important;

Second mentoring tier is for Parents (to reinforce positive mentoring sessions) and Grandparents raising Black children;

Third mentoring tier is to reinforce church’s commitment by requesting each to create an internal ministry program for mentoring;

Yet another third tier is to partner with other non-profits and schools with existing programs;

Incarceration is a by product of poverty and rights of package that suggest it is OK to go to jail;

Homicide is a by product of poverty, poor role models, etc.;

Another indicator not listed is health trends for Black women result in higher number of low birth weight pregnancies, children deaths, and HIV/Aids;

Illiterate is a failure of poverty and parenting priorities.

  • Of all Black fourth-graders, 58% are functionally illiterate.
  • In some cities, 80% of our boys drop out before finishing high school.
  • Every day 1,000 Black children are arrested.
  • 1 in every 8 African American males ages 25-29 is incarcerated.
  • The number one cause of death for our boys is homicide.

  • Decrease in school drop-out rate
  • Reduction in risky behavior (i.e., drug/alcohol use, bullying, teen pregnancy, etc.)

  • Develop communication skills with adults and peers
  • Set and achieve personal, academic and career goals
